About Emotional Triggers Treatment

What is Emotional Triggers Treatment (ETT)?

Emotional Triggers Treatment (ETT) is a method developed to help people change the

triggers that cause intense, unwanted negative reactions, such as anger, guilt, shame, and fear.

Over time, unresolved negative emotions can cause:

  • PTSD

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Difficulty handling stress

  • Anger issues

  • Guilt/shame/self-esteem issues

  • Relationship problems

  • Feelings of being “stuck

  • Chronic pain

  • Flashbacks

  • Night terrors

  • Sleep issues

and other physical, mental and emotional outcomes that make life difficult to manage.

The outcome of ETT is to minimize or free individuals from these issues and unwanted
reactions. ETT is a short treatment series that takes 2-5 sessions. The number of sessions overall depends on the extent of the issues we work with.

Who can benefit from ETT?

When we experience any kind of traumatic event, it can leave a disturbing imprint on the
emotional brain. This imprint can cause us to continue to relive the feelings of this experience
whenever we think about it, or when we experience anything that may be similar to the original
event.

A veteran suffering from PTSD developed through live combat, for example, may get triggered years later on the 4th of July, by the sound of firecrackers - just because these two experiences are too similar for the brain to separate. Many emotional responses that are out-of-proportion to the situation are, in fact, triggered responses with roots in experiences that the emotional brain never got a chance to close. These become "residue" and imprints in the emotional brain, and they linger on as “unresolved issues.”

Triggers cause the brain and the nervous system to think we are in danger. That immediately
causes our fight-or-flight response to kick in. We then tend to “overreact” to the situation in
front of us because the left-over imprints are coming into play. Because the imprints are highly
charged for the brain, they amplify our feelings and responses. The amplified and unresolved
feelings can give rise to anxiety, depression, obsessive thoughts, anger, guilt/shame, sadness,
and other negative emotions that interrupt the way we interact with life and function with
others.

ETT helps address the imprints of trauma by updating the mind so that it no longer follows the
fight-or-flight path. A new path is created that allows the individual to experience only what is
happening in the present without interference from past unresolved trauma.
